Trading 212 completes its automated deposits feature using TrueLayer’s Bank on File, so UK investors can fund AutoInvest instantly.
Trading 212 launches automated deposits with TrueLayer Bank on File, letting UK customers invest directly from their bank accounts.
Key Points:
Trading 212 has completed its automated deposits feature, using Bank on File from TrueLayer. UK customers can now invest automatically straight from their bank account, without logging into their banking app each time.
Bank on File is TrueLayer’s recurring and one-click payment product. Commercial Variable Recurring Payments power it. This technology went live in the UK in May 2026 and lets customers authorize a business to take payments of varying amounts within agreed limits, without re-authenticating each time.
Automated investing has featured on Trading 212’s product roadmap since the launch of Pies, its flagship AutoInvest feature. However, legacy payment rails held the process back. Cards bring fees, failed payments, and expiry dates, while Direct Debit takes days to clear and leaves investor capital sitting idle.
Bank on File closes that gap. Customers set up a mandate in their own banking app in under a minute and choose their AutoInvest schedule. After that, every deposit arrives instantly, directly from their bank, with no card details, no card expiry, and no third party between the customer and their money. Investors can also put their funds to work in the market immediately.
Trading 212 says results since the June go-live have outperformed expectations. The key figures include:
Angel Milachkov, Head of Growth at Trading 212, said automated deposits have ranked among the most requested features since day one. He said the company pioneered automated investing with Pies, but the underlying payment rails never suited it. With Bank on File, he said, investors set their schedule once and their plan executes continuously.
Francesco Simoneschi, CEO and co-founder of TrueLayer, called automated deposits the holy grail of retail investing. He said cards and Direct Debit were built for different jobs, and that customers invest more when they have a payment method that simply works.
Trading 212 now plans to build Bank on File into key moments of its user experience and make it the default way customers fund their investing.
TrueLayer, founded in 2016 by Francesco Simoneschi and Luca Martinetti, runs a Pay by Bank network used by more than 30 million people across Europe. It combines real-time bank payments with financial and identity data to help businesses onboard users, accept money, and make payouts at scale.
Trading 212 offers stocks, ETFs, savings accounts, and debit cards to millions of clients across the UK and Europe. Bulgarian entrepreneurs Borislav Nedialkov and Ivan Ashminov control the company, and London-based CEO Mukid Chowdhury runs it day to day.
